Bala is widely recognised as an area of outstanding natural beauty on the southern edge of the Snowdonia National Park.
Bala itself is a country market town and has a good range of facilities with a weekly market, craft shops, a small
cinema, plenty of good places to eat and a number of pubs.
In addition there is a modern leisure centre with an excellent swimming pool
Families will find plenty to do with castles and ruins to explore and the narrow gauge steam railway which runs
along the opposite shoreline of the Lake is a favourite with children.
There are also numerous excellent sandy beaches along the West Wales coast at Harlech, Barmouth, Porthmadoc and
Aberdovey all within a short drive.
The stunning gardens and colourful italianate village of Portmerion is sited on a sandy estuary and is
well worth a visit being about 25 mins drive away.
Bodnant Gardens are equally impressive and well worth putting time aside to visit.
The Bala area is particularly rewarding for visitors with a love of 'the great outdoors'.
There are numerous cycle trails, country walks and rambles of varying intensity and there are rewarding
hill walks on the lesser known and therefore quieter peaks of the Arans, the Arenigs, the Berwyns and Cadair Idris.
The mountains of central Snowdonia are only a short drive away.
The Lake provides an excellent venue for watersports enthusiasts with good access at several points for launching sailing
craft and canoes.
There is an RYA approved watersports centre located on the lake shore where sailing, canoeing and windsurfing tuition
can be readily arranged & craft may be hired.
The National White Water Rafting Centre is only 5 miles away and remains open all year.
Excellent game and coarse fishing are available locally and is readily arranged.
